Our Inspiration

In March 2020, Anna Osowski was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. On February 21st, Anna was placed in hospice care following her cancer metastasizing. Unfortunately, Anna passed at 8:15 AM on the morning of February 28th. Anna was a deeply devoted mother to her son Filip and daughter Monika, both of which are currently university students. She was a loving wife to her husband of 30 years, Wojtek. Anna was a pillar of Chicago's Polish community throughout her life, dedicating more than 20 of her years to teaching the Polish language at Emilia Plater Polish School.

Anna's story has served as the inspiration behind the Women Against Ovarian Cancer. She lived a beautiful life, and was taken too soon by the disease. We hope to use our platform in our community to spread awareness for Ovarian cancer, and do what we can to honor Anna's life.

  • Pelvic Exam: During an annual physical (well-woman exam), your doctor will perform a pelvic exam to feel for cancer tumors and other abnormalities.

  • Transvaginal Ultrasound: If your pelvic exam is abnormal, your doctor may request that you have a transvaginal ultrasound to scan for tumors and other abnormalities.

  • CA-125 Blood Test: High levels of the CA-125 protein can sometimes indicate ovarian diseases, including cancer.
